AP Police Conduct Mock Drills to Gear Up for Counting
Police in Ongole town conducted mock exercises to anticipate various eventualities. The drill was designed to prepare police officers to manage any law-and-order crisis.
M. K. Meena, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), announced on wednesday that security procedures for vote counting had been tightened. "Police pickets have been deployed. Drills and flag marches are being held. "We are getting fully prepared," he stated.
He stated that the indian election commission has already ordered the Ministry of home Affairs to keep the 25 Central Armed police Force (CAPF) companies in the state.
The poll panel has urged the Ministry to detain the businesses for 15 days after counting, as requested by the state administration, to contain any potential violence when the results are declared.
On May 13, there were simultaneous elections for the 175-member state assembly and all 25 lok sabha seats.
Parts of the state experienced violence on election day and the next two days.
Palnadu and Anantapur superintendents of police were suspended, while the Palnadu district collector and tirupati SP were moved. Twelve junior police officers from the three districts were also suspended.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also formed to look into the incidences of violence in the three districts.
The SIT documented 33 cases of violence throughout the three districts. The FIRs named a total of 1,370 persons as accused.
So far, the police have detained 124 people and given notifications to 94 others under Section 41A of the criminal Procedure Code. The SIT urged the investigating police to finish all outstanding arrests as soon as possible.
