Telangana govt looking to auction Medigadda barrage sand dunes
The congress administration here seems to be eyeing the sand dunes near the medigadda barrage for some profit, after accusing the previous BRS government of wasting money on the construction of the largest irrigation project in the world, the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Huge sand dunes grew in the upper portion of the project because water was released from the barrier downstream after three of the pillars sank. These sand dunes are apparently about to be put up for auction by the State government. There have been requests for the telangana Mineral Development Corporation Limited (TGMDCL) to put 14 sand blocks in the medigadda barrage up for sale. An official from the company acknowledged that discussions were taking on at a higher level regarding the auction of the sand dunes that had gathered at the Medigadda barrage. The corporation would solicit tenders to auction the sand blocks in July as soon as the government gave the go-ahead.
According to what has been reported, the TGMDC stated that the State government might make a significant amount of money by auctioning off the sand if there were no barriers to its exploitation. Meanwhile, it has been reported that sand committees at the district level have begun searching the Annaram and Sundilla barrages for sand blocks.
Even though the State administration raised a lot of fuss over the cost of fixing the medigadda barrage, it now seems fine to use the sand that has gathered there to make money. When the medigadda barrage started to show fractures in october of last year, the government decided to release all of the water while the repairs were being completed. After then, sand dunes built up around the barrage, which is currently beneficial to the State government.
