In the Daulat Beg Oldie region of eastern Ladakh, five
indian army personnel perished after their tank was washed away by flash floods while they were crossing a river. The region is close to China's Line of Actual Control. As part of a training, four jawans and one
junior commissioned officer (JCO) were crossing a river in a T-72 tank in the Nyoma-Chushul region when the
event occurred. But the water levels suddenly rose, and the impact caused the tank to sink, according to PTI.
"An incident occurred last
evening during a river crossing exercise in the Daulat Beg Oldie region that claimed the lives of five
indian army personnel, including one
junior commissioned officer (JCO) and four jawans. "All five of the bodies have been located," stated defence authorities.
Defence
minister Rajnath Singh responded to the
event by expressing his profound sadness over the deaths of five
army men.
"The outstanding
service that our brave troops provided to the country will always be remembered. I send the families of the deceased my sincere sympathies. "During this hour of grief, the nation stands firm with them," Singh posted.
Heavy rains have been falling in parts of Ladakh and
himachal pradesh for the last several days. Landslides were recorded in the districts of Kinnaur, Kullu, and
shimla on Friday.
A landslip in the Malyana region of
shimla caused damage to many cars. Similar to what happened in the districts of Kinnaur and Kullu, landslides also caused roadblocks and an interruption in transportation.
