Pune cops to move Supreme Court over teen driver's release
On june 25, the top court ordered the adolescent defendant's immediate release, citing the illegality of the Juvenile Justice Board's (JJB) remand orders that sent him to an observation home and the necessity of properly enforcing the law pertaining to juveniles.
Following the high court judgement, the minor left the observation house and his paternal aunt was given custody of him.
The boy's aunt filed a petition alleging he was being held unlawfully, and on that basis the order was made.
Two IT workers were killed after the adolescent's father's porsche collided with a two-wheeler in the kalyani Nagar neighbourhood of the city early on May 19, according to the police. The teen was driving the car while intoxicated.
On Monday, a pune court is anticipated to make a decision about the boy's father and grandfather's bail request in the driver's alleged kidnapping case.
The police applied to the JJB to have the bail order amended since the public was outraged by the speedy bail on liberal terms.
The youngster was placed under arrest and remanded to the observation home by the board on May 22.
