The Moula Ali-Sanathnagar stretch, which has been waiting for ten years and offers MMTS connection between the
east and west corridors, officially opened for
business on Tuesday. There were no MMTS
services available for years, thus
people in Ghatkesar, Cherlapally, and Moula
ali had to rely on buses and private automobiles to go to Hi-Tec City and other parts of the IT corridor.
Earlier, Sanathnagar–Moula
ali section, a single line, was open to only freight trains. Now, not only has the section been doubled and electrified but opened to handle passenger traffic as well. The 48-km long east–west corridor served by MMTS would connect residential areas of Ghatkesar, Cherlapally, Mallapur, Neredmet, ECIL, Bhudevinagar, Suchitra with IT corridor. Members of the United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (UFERWAS) said MMTS phase-II from the beginning faced several problems.
The
army objected to a 3.5 km stretch of track that would have doubled work between Suchitra and Ferozguda; the state
government failed to allocate its portion of the project's cost; the executing agency, RVNL, shelved the project after building a few stations due to lack of funding; and there were other issues as well.
