Bangalore 2nd Airport: karnataka hunting for Hosur..? Selection of 4 Areas..!

Both the states of karnataka and tamil Nadu have intensified the work of setting up a new airport in the Bangalore-Hosur belt. Although the two states cannot construct the 2nd airport till 2033 due to the agreement of the central government, the work of selecting the location of the 2nd airport has started.

In this context, karnataka State's Infrastructure minister MP Patil recently announced plans to convene a meeting to decide the location of Bengaluru's second airport.

As this decision is very important, beyond the ruling party, opposition parties, people, market experts, and industry are making several suggestions. But the construction of Bangalore's 2nd airport will be decided considering two main factors.

2 Key factors: These will be decided on the basis of passenger volume and connectivity to the existing Kempegowda international airport (KIA). On this basis, it has been reported that the karnataka government has added 4 seats in the first phase. Additional time required: Considering the time required for land acquisition and compensation for land owners in setting up Bangalore's 2nd airport, the government has started the planning process early.

Key issue: minister MP Patil, while talking about the tamil Nadu government's decision to build an airport at Hosur, said that the exclusivity clause with BIAL should be examined. Central to his comments was Bangalore international airport Limited's (BIAL) pact with the central government not to establish another airport within a radius of 150 kilometers till 2032. Due to the fact that this rule will end in 2033, now both tamil Nadu and karnataka are trying to set up a new airport in the Bangalore-Hosur belt. Possible Locations for Bengaluru 2nd Airport: In the ongoing meeting, minister MP Patil mentioned 4 possible locations for the new airport based on the 2 key criteria already mentioned.

If Bangalore's 2nd airport is a priority for passenger numbers, areas like sarjapur and Kanakapura Road are strong contenders. However, if connectivity with KIA is prioritized, places like Tumkuru and Dabaspet will be at the forefront, he said. Trouble for Hosur: If the karnataka government decides to set up the 2nd Bangalore airport in areas like sarjapur and Kanakapura Road, it will become a big problem for the tamil Nadu government's Hosur airport. This is because the existing Hosur TAAL airport is only 25-50 km away from the sarjapur and Kanakapura road sections. If the karnataka govt builds Bangalore's 2nd airport in areas like sarjapur and Kanakapura Road then the plan to set up an airport in Hosur will be futile. But till now the karnataka government has not decided in which area the 2nd airport will be set up.
