SIBY JEYYA
The relationship between india and turkey has not been harmonious during the past ten years, and it seems that Ankara's strong links to pakistan will be the last straw in its efforts to improve relations with New Delhi. There are claims that turkey has placed this subdued restriction in favor of Pakistan. This information was revealed by a Turkish government official in a closed-door meeting of the Turkish Parliament.

As per the minutes of the July 10, 2024, Foreign Affairs Committee debate, mustafa Murat Seker, the deputy chairman of Turkey's top arms procurement agency, the Presidency of the Defence industry (SSB), unintentionally disclosed the government's top-secret strategy about India. turkey has essentially put india on a blacklist for weapons exports.

Under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's leadership, Turkish-Indian ties have drastically worsened over the past ten years, mostly as a result of policy choices, especially Ankara's steadfast backing of pakistan in its disputes with India.

Will this ban affect India?

Nevertheless, india will not be impacted by Turkey's prohibition. india has already terminated weapons shipments to Ankara and canceled a $2 billion naval contract with a Turkish defense company. The production of domestic weapons and ammunition has reached a record high in recent years because of New Delhi's emphasis on "Made in India" in the defense sector. In FY 2022–2023, defense output was valued at Rs 1,08,684 crore. Over the previous five years, or from 2019 to 2022, the value of defense manufacturing has increased by more than 60%.

India has also lately increased its defence exports. Recall that in FY 2023–24, defence exports reached a new high of Rs 21,083 crore, up 32.5% from the previous fiscal year when they were Rs 15,920 crore.
