Soldier dead, Army Major among 4 injured in encounter in J&K
Terrorists and pakistan army commandos have been reported to infiltrate along the LoC as part of Border Action Teams (BATs). The second confrontation in three days in Kupwara began in the Kamkari sector of the district as a result of intelligence regarding potential terrorist activity in the area.
"A Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) attack on the Line of Control against indian forces has been thwarted by indian army troops." According to Defence Ministry officials who spoke to news agency ANI, the BAT squad accused of carrying out the attack may have included regular pakistan army soldiers as well as its SSG commandos, who have close ties to terrorist groups.
In the Lolab region of Kupwara, earlier on July 24, the security forces also killed an unnamed terrorist after a midnight shootout with militants. The shootout claimed the life of another soldier.
According to reports, these terrorists, who have successfully infiltrated the area, are highly skilled and armed with some of the most advanced weaponry available, including night-vision equipped M4 Carbine Rifles manufactured in the United States.
