Thanks to the hacking of a bluetooth phone, the kolkata police have identified and arrested the accused for the rape and murder of a female inductee at the RG Kar government college and Hospital.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Roy, was another person who had easy access to many areas of the hospital because of his work as a civilian volunteer in the police Welfare Board. Sources told News18 that the suspect's calls are a crucial clue that led to his arrest. CCTV footage shows that Roy was wearing Bluetooth headphones when he entered the hospital but was missing when he left. The police recovered the torn part of the phone, which could be linked to the suspect, which would help them crack the case. Other graduate trainees and female doctors identified Roy from CCTV footage taken in different parts of the hospital.
The half-naked body of the female PGT doctor, a second-year student of thoracic medicine, was found in the hospital's auditorium on Friday. He was at work on thursday night and suffered multiple injuries. The initial autopsy report showed that she had been murdered before her death, which her father said she was dumped and killed at the hospital.
How was Sanjay Roy arrested? After the body was found, the police set up a command center in the college hall with 15 computers to analyze the CCTV footage every hour. Initial reports suggest the crime took place between 4am and 6am, four hours after the killer had eaten. While checking the CCTV, the officers saw Roy come in at 4am and going through the video frame by frame, saw that he left the hospital without any telephone. police also questioned doctors and nurses at the scene and gathered information to prove Roy's presence. Evidence collected included a broken Bluetooth headset found at the scene. During interrogation, Roy showed signs of depression and later confessed to the crime. In addition, the police found suspicious messages on his cell phone, raising concerns about his condition.
In light of the RG Kar situation, kolkata police Commissioner Vineet Goyal issued a special warning indicating the need to increase safety measures for women in government hospitals.
