Kolkata Doctor's Murder Case: Family Accuses Police of Cover-Up; TMC and BJP Clash
In a new development in the kolkata doctor's rape and murder case, the victim’s family has leveled serious allegations against the city police. The trainee doctor, who was attacked on august 9 at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital, has seen her parents accusing the kolkata police of attempting to cover up the case through bribery and by hastily cremating her body.
On september 4, the doctor’s parents joined protesting junior doctors at the hospital, alleging that a senior police officer offered them money and pressured them to sign documents and cremate their daughter's body against their wishes. “The police tried to cover up the case from the start. We were not allowed to see the body and were pressured to accept money, which we refused,” claimed the victim’s father.
In response, the trinamool congress (TMC) released a video on social media, where the parents seemingly deny receiving any money. Debangshu Bhattacharya Dev, head of the TMC IT cell, shared the video, suggesting a different narrative.
The bharatiya janata party (BJP) has seized the opportunity to criticize West bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and kolkata police Commissioner vineet kumar Goyal. bjp IT cell head amit Malviya has called for their resignations, accusing them of mishandling the case and attempting to mislead the public about the circumstances surrounding the murder. Malviya also demanded a lie-detection test for Banerjee and Goyal, urging an examination of their call records.
The controversy has intensified as accusations and counterclaims continue to surdata-face, leaving the investigation shrouded in political and social tensions.
