Tories Don’t Want Another British Indian Leader
The Conservative party had a terrible summer when Rishi Sunak's historic tenure as the first british indian prime minister came to an end. Following the outcome, the party started making arrangements right away in order to choose a new leader. Among the six contenders for the role of new Opposition leader was Priti patel, a british indian Member of Parliament.
It appears, though, that the party didn't think highly of her. It was obvious that the Tories required a significant overhaul to help them recover from their most devastating defeat in history. Perhaps for that reason, they would prefer that no one of indian descent lead the party in the future. The fact that patel failed to get past the first vote round was indicative of this.
Former immigration minister Robert Jenrick topped the field, but he shouldn't gloat just yet because there are still two rounds of voting to go. Since Sunak is operating as the Opposition leader in the Parliament, it might still shrink in any of the three remaining mp races. By november 2, when Sunak relinquishes his position, the Tories should have their new face of the party if all proceeds as planned.
