Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, often travels with a high degree of protection, the New York Times said. Under the code name "Voyager," Musk is escorted by a group of twenty armed bodyguards and a medicine expert. According to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index, a person with a net worth of $250 billion is worthy of this level of protection.

Musk didn't previously have such strict security. He roamed more freely before 2014, but that year he strengthened his security to handle any threats and keep an eye on those who were considered "inappropriate pursuers." According to reports, Musk's security expenses often top six figures every month; in 2016, one charge came to $163,000.
Musk has talked candidly about the threats made against him in recent years. He disclosed that he had received death threats from two people during Tesla's shareholder meeting in June, which prompted additional security measures. Following the revelation of his old address in 2022, Musk bought a new house covertly; it is surrounded by security.

According to Tesla's SEC filings, the business paid $2.4 million in 2023 for Musk's security, and by early 2024, another $500,000 was due. These sums represent a small portion of his overall security costs.
