The Biggest Re-Release Exposed the Real Struggles of Bollywood

G GOWTHAM
This year, bollywood suffered heavy losses, with only stree 2 and a few low-budget hits standing out as standout releases. Reissues of beloved films have surprisingly done well in this context. The movie business is presently experiencing a dry spell akin to April–May 2024, with either too many releases in a given week or none at all, as a result of bad preparation.

In retaliation, Rockstar was successfully re-released in theaters during the summer. laila Majnu (2018) has performed remarkably well; even though its first earnings were just Rs. 2.89 crores, its re-release has earned over Rs. 8 crores in 5 weeks and is expected to reach Rs. 10 crores shortly.

In a same vein, R madhavan and Dia Mirza's Rehnaa Hai Terre dil Mein (2001) has also been reissued. Following in the footsteps of laila Majnu's popularity, it is trending strongly and might surpass its original lifetime receipts of Rs. 5.52 crores. Tumbbad, which was rereleased on september 13, is the most recent example of this movement. The movie became the biggest re-release in the previous five years because to the outstanding collections. Some theaters have added additional showings due to the increase in demand.

Records set by recent successful re-releases might be broken by Tumbbad's re-release. For example, the box office receipts for laila Majnu's re-release were triple those of its initial run, and good reviews were also received for Rockstar and Rehnaa Hai Terre dil Mein. The North indian theater industry has been largely dependent on the success of these re-releases. In the future, if films like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 do well throughout Diwali, they might bring in a new era of bollywood success.
