US warns Iran of 'severe consequences' after it launches missiles
President Joe Biden characterized Iran's strike as futile and reaffirmed the US's unwavering support for Israel. He said he was going to call with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that talks were in progress over Israel's response.
According to US national security advisor Jake Sullivan, US military personnel in the area assisted israel and its air defenses in thwarting the attempt, and the Biden administration was conferring with Israeli authorities over the next course of action.
Sullivan did not say what those repercussions may be, but he refrained from advising israel to exercise patience, as the US did in april in response to Iran's drone and missile strike on Israel.
According to reports, after Iran's assault in april, Biden advised Netanyahu to "take the win" and hold off on retaliation in order to prevent a larger regional conflict, because israel was mostly unharmed.
Later, Biden told reporters, "The united states is fully, fully, fully supportive of israel," but he added that it is unclear how israel will react.
Even after months of strenuous discussions by the Biden administration and consistent assurances that a truce to end the Gaza conflict was coming, tensions in the area have sharply increased as a result of Iran's ballistic missile strike.
Following Iran's missile launch, former President donald trump released a statement, although he avoided discussing the strike specifically.
"Iran has been spreading terror around the world, but things are starting to fall apart. The Middle east as a whole has been falling apart "Said trump, who will compete against harris on november 5th.
According to harris, Washington is dedicated to ensuring Israel's security and views iran as a dangerous and unstable power in the Middle East.
