Ratnavelu is a seasoned craftsman, but Devara was his first big picture release in a long time. Despite having worked on Enthiran (Robot) in the past, the majority of his current projects have been in more traditional settings. This might explain his shortcomings with fundamental matters. If they are going to move on with Devara Part Two, it would be prudent for the core team, consisting of ntr and Koratala, to acknowledge this and think about replacing him. Fortunately, the initial section worked well and did not allow for trolling. Otherwise, heroes would have to pay a lifetime for blunders like this.
