Alia Bhatt's Worst Box Office Opening in 10 Years!
One of the most prosperous female actors of her day in hindi films is alia Bhatt. Over her roughly twelve years in the business, alia has starred in some of the biggest hits and gone on to achieve box office triumphs as a single female lead. That's why many were taken aback by Jigra's modest first-day sales, her most recent offering. Insiders in the industry debate the whys and hows, but Jigra's opening was the lowest of any alia movie in ten years.
Jigra, which was directed by Vasan Bala, took in a very meager ₹4.55 crore on its first day of sales in India. To put that in perspective, Jigra was surpassed by rajkummar rao and Triptii Dimri's absurd comedy Vicky vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which also debuted on the same day and brought in ₹5.25 crore. Jigra's first-day global take-home was a pitiful ₹7.45 crore. With a 42% increase on Saturday, the action drama made some progress toward its goal of collecting ₹6.50 crore but considering its opening weekend earnings, this may still be insufficient.
Highway was the first alia bhatt movie to have ever made less than ₹5 crore on its first day of release prior to Jigra. Imtiaz Ali's 2014 film made ₹3.48 crore at its premiere. Except Kapoor & Sons, every alia movie released since then has brought in at least ₹7 crore. Jigra's start is concerning because Shaandaar and Kalank, Alia's only two box office failures, both had greater opening totals of ₹13.10 crore and ₹21.60 crore, respectively.
Even Alia's solo movies that lacked a male lead have done better. Dear Zindagi debuted at ₹8.75 crore, Raazi at ₹7.53 crore, and Gangubai Kathiawadi broke the bank with its opening day total of ₹10.50 crore during the epidemic. These numbers just serve to highlight how little excitement there has been about Jigra.
