When trump announced his candidacy for president, no one thought he would proceed very far. It was during this time that trump floated his populist campaign of ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA), where he opposed illegal immigration, free trade and enforced traditionally conservative values.

Meanwhile the tone of the presidential campaign was bitter and divisive, as trump battled sexual misconduct claims and criticism over his views on race and immigration. However, as the US went for presidential elections on november 8, polls vastly underestimated Trump’s performance as he won key swing states, despite falling behind Clinton in the popular vote. trump bested Clinton in the Electoral college Vote by 304-227, becoming the first US President with no prior public service experience.

Moreover trump won 74 million votes in the 2020 election, surpassing Barack Obama’s record of 69.5 million votes in 2008. However, Biden received 81 million votes, the most ever in a US presidential election. Biden clinched the presidency in the Electoral Collage by winning 306 votes to Trump’s 232. trump refused to accept the result and claimed the election was “stolen" from him by the Democrats.
