Fake Reviews & BO Numbers: Self Destruction Mode

G GOWTHAM
Bollywood has increasingly been criticism for its purported inflating of box office data and lack of transparency. Experts in the trade are worried that Bollywood, which once accused South indian cinema of making false promises, is itself using same trivial strategies.

Inflated figures as high as 20–30% have been observed by experts, particularly in high-stakes ventures involving well-known celebrities. One of the main components of this misconduct is corporate bulk reservations. It is a common tactic to increase sales and generate buzz around well-known celebrities.

Despite displaying disparities in figures, recent diwali releases such as "Singham Again" and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3" have done well, which has led to skepticism among trade observers. According to industry analysts, these kinds of actions can seriously harm the industry's reputation even though they could fictitiously increase a movie's box office success and elevate the actor to a heroic status.

Due to irregularities, these procedures frequently harm exhibitors as well, preventing them from receiving reliable data for their business planning. The quality and authenticity of the material can be harmed by exaggerated PR campaigns, bought social media buzz, and manipulated box office results, according to trade professionals who have voiced their growing anger. Experts have long accused the South indian film industry of similar stunts, thus this practice is not exclusive to Bollywood. The indian film industry must now decide whether to stick to these "heroic" strategies or to openly disclose the real numbers in order to win back the confidence of both the audience and criticism.
