The movie opens with a brief scene in a tribal village from centuries past and then shifts to the present day in Goa, India. Suriya as Francis and disha patani as angela are bounty hunters. A kid escapes from a research facility and the escaped kid reaches Suriya. The facility captures the kid again, the story moves back in time, and we get the introduction of tribals and their history. The kid's story begins to unfold, with intriguing scenes between the kid and Kanguva. As their connection grows, more about the kid’s past is revealed. bobby deol as the king of Arathi Island declares war on Kanguva's island and the scene sets up the perfect Intermission block.
The film includes some strong opening scenes, and the recurring introductory scenes were well-executed. However, the movie gets obnoxious and annoying after a while. Sometimes the DSP's background music is excessively loud and inconsistent. surya does a wonderful job as Kanguva. Kanguva's first forty-five minutes are utterly surprising. Francis (Suriya) and disha patani compete with each other by doing over-the-top acts in an attempt to irritate one another. Even though Kanguva's character doesn't develop well at first, the movie picks up steam as the flashback begins.
The second half curse continues for tamil cinema once again. The story unfolds between the kid and Suriya and both are exiled from the village and are sent inside the dark forest. The major highlight in the second half is where the women and children data-face off against the villains. And the last 20 minutes where the fight scene blends both the past and present is completely shoddy.
Although surya does a good job in his role and deserves praise for his efforts, a script like this is difficult to salvage with a single performance. While there are a few strong scenes in the movie, the majority of it is rather unimpressive. There is a complete lack of the emotional connection required for a movie like this. It is difficult to see through after a point since director Siva keeps the screenplay mostly intact in the first half but breaks it in the second. In certain locations, BGM is effective, while in others, it is excessively loud and ineffective. The quality of the production values is good.
Overall, 'Kanguva' Goes Down in Flames
