Kanguva 1000 Crores Dream - Netizens Troll goes Non-Stop

G GOWTHAM
Despite high anticipation, the highly awaited tamil epic Kanguva has failed to create an impression at the box office and has not reached the ₹100-crore mark. The movie has made ₹66.1 crore net in india over ten days, according to Sacnilk, and has made ₹98.5 crore internationally. This is a huge loss for a film that was hailed as a blockbuster contender.

On Day 1, the movie made a promising ₹24 crore net domestically, but it quickly lost steam. Daily receipts had fallen to ₹0.7 crore on the second Friday, and they only slightly increased over the weekend to ₹1.1 crore on the ninth day. The diminishing numbers have clouded the theatrical run of a project of this data-size.

In retrospect, producer KE Gnanavel Raja's initial assurance now seems excessively optimistic. Aiming for the stars, raja brushed aside any skepticism over Kanguva's potential in a pre-release interview with Galatta. "I anticipate the box office to bring in ₹2,000 crore. He had said, "Why are you underestimating it with the ₹1,000 crore mark?" Nevertheless, such high hopes appear to be out of step as the movie struggles to make even ₹100 crore. In response to claims of exaggerated box office receipts, raja pledged transparency by providing GST records for validation.
