California's presidential election results have not yet been formally announced, even after 19 days of voting. Billionaire Elon Musk criticized the process, comparing it to India's successful lok sabha elections, which involved massive voting procedures. Musk said that while the US state is still counting, india tallied 640 million votes in a single day.

"India counted 640 million votes in 1 day," Musk retweeted a post regarding the indian election process. He expressed his dissatisfaction by using the data-facepalm emoji and the statement, "California is still counting votes."

In California, news agency Associated press has declared Democratic candidate Kamala harris the victor with 58.6% of the vote, compared to Republican Donald Trump's 38.2%, with 98 percent of the vote counted and the formal declaration still awaited.

Nearly 39 million people live in California, the most populous state in the US, and more than 16 million of them cast ballots in the election on november 5.

Since the majority of the state's elections are performed by mail, verifying votes sent in by mail takes more time and effort than verifying ballots submitted in person. Instead of just scanning a ballot at a polling place, each ballot needs to be verified and processed separately.

Additionally, the law permits voters who made mistakes—such as forgetting to sign, signing incorrectly, or failing to enclose their ballot in the appropriate envelope—to "cure" their problematic votes until december 1.

In the meanwhile, donald trump defeated harris in a stunning comeback to win the US election in 2024. Under trump 2.0, Elon Musk has been proposed to lead a new "Department of government Efficiency."
