Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist, was criticized by Elon Musk for making fun of the tech billionaire's plans to establish a colony on Mars. Tyson criticized Musk's aspirations to fly to Mars in an interview with American talk show presenter Bill Maher, claiming that his project will never attract any investors.
Musk has long argued that the only way for mankind to survive is to colonize Mars. The Mars initiative of Musk's space business SpaceX seeks to build a big, self-sufficient community on Mars in order to ensure human survival in the long run in the event that Earth is unsuitable for human habitation.
However, Tyson has clarified that he wants humanity to concentrate on the planet's current problems.
Maher questioned Tyson on Musk's proposal to bring people to Mars during the broadcast. No one would be prepared to invest in a project that gives no returns, Tyson said, pointing out flaws in Musk's ambitions to build a colony on Mars.
