The Impact Of Muslim Votes On Maharashtra Assembly Election Results

SIBY JEYYA
The Eknath Shinde government's social programs have been generally credited for helping the governing alliance in maharashtra win. However, a significant contributing element has been the Muslim vote's division, which has given the ruling coalition a portion of the state's 38 seats.

More than 20% of these 38 seats are occupied by Muslims, which significantly affects the election's outcome. Out of these 38 seats, the ruling coalition has won 22 of them, far more than the opposition maha Vikas Aghadi, which has won 13. The congress has been severely impacted by the vote split; the party's score has fallen from 11 to 5. Sharad Pawar's ncp faction received two seats, while the shiv sena uddhav thackeray faction received six.

The bjp now holds 14 of the 38 seats, up from 11 in 2019. Ajit Pawar's congress PARTY' target='_blank' title='nationalist congress party-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">nationalist congress party has won two seats, while Eknath Shinde's shiv sena has won six.

The Samajwadi party received two of the remaining three seats, while Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM received only one.

The results show that the clerics were unable to control the Muslim community's collective decision-making, which bolstered the BJP's claims of "vote jihad" or the gathering of Muslim votes against the Mahayuti.

Senior bjp leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe denied accusations of polarization from the opposition, stating that the phrase "Ek hain toh safe hain" encompasses all communities. "People united to vote for development instead of succumbing to the MVA's polarization and appeasement tactics. "Our 'Ek hain toh safe hain' mantra encompasses all communities," he stated.

Salim Sarang, the head of the Muslim Welfare Association, stated, "People here look at development and benefits; there was no place for appeasement."

Prominent Muslim figures who lost were Arif Naseem Khan of the congress and nawab malik and Zeeshan Siddiqui of the NCP.

According to data, the MVA's strong success in the May lok sabha election was aided by the Muslim community's support; but, in the assembly polls, they suffered from poor turnout, split votes, and communal division in several districts. The presence of several Muslim candidates caused votes to be divided in several seats.

For example, AIMIM state president and former mp Imtiaz jaleel lost by 2,161 votes to Atul Save of the bjp in aurangabad East. The Muslim vote in the constituency was divided between Afsar Khan of the VBA (6,507 votes) and Abdul Gaffar Syed of the SP (5,943 votes), guaranteeing Jaleel's loss.
