On Thursday, december 12, indian Grandmaster D Gukesh won the World Chess championship title after defeating Ding Liren in the final. After Viswanathan Anand, he is the only other indian to win the championship.
 
The incumbent champion, who was the clear favorite to win the championship, lost to the indian star in the historic victory. However, the scores were level at 6.5, and Gukesh capitalized on his Chinese opponent's error. His triumph in game 14 led to a final score of 7.5 to Liren's 6.5.
 
Additionally, he breaks the previous record set by the great Russian Garry Kasparov, who won the title at the age of 22, whilst Gukesh did it at the age of 18. prime minister Narendra Modi, who became the youngest global chess champion, congratulated Gukesh on his historic victory and claimed that it was the product of his unmatched brilliance and diligence. Gukesh's victory, according to PM Modi, has not only cemented his reputation in chess history but also encouraged millions of young people to pursue their dreams.
 
How much prize money did D Gukesh win?
In the World Chess championship, each classical game victory was valued at $200,000 (about Rs 1.69 crore). Gukesh won three games and collected $600,000 (approximately Rs 5.07 crore), while Liren won two games and took home $400,000 (approximately Rs 3.38 crore). The two competitors will share the remaining $1.5 million in prize money evenly. Accordingly, Gukesh would receive $1.35 million (about Rs 11.45 crore) in prize money, while his opponent would receive $1.15 million (roughly Rs 9.75 crore).
