Senior congress leader EVKS Elangovan passed away due to a health issue. Senior congress leader and mla EVKS Ilangovan has passed away after his health deteriorated. He was admitted to a private hospital in Ramapuram, near chennai, at the end of last month due to shortness of breath. Leaders including chief minister Stalin visited him in person and inquired about his health. It was said that his health was improving after continuous treatment. In this case, his health deteriorated again and he died. He was 75 years old. The hospital said that he passed away at exactly 10.12 am without any treatment. congress workers are in mourning due to this. The son of EVKS Ilangovan, who contested from Erode east constituency in the 2021 assembly elections, passed away suddenly due to a sudden illness. Subsequently, in the by-election held in the vacant seat in 2023, EVKS Elangovan contested and won from that seat. In this situation, he too has passed away due to ill health. The incident of the son and father, who contested and won from the same seat, passing away one after the other is painful.
EVKS Elangovan is the grandson of Periyar's brother E.V. Krishnasamy and the son of his son E. V. K. Sampath. Born on december 21, 1948, in Erode, he graduated with a B.A. in economics from the madras State College. He joined the congress party at a young age and did intensive fieldwork. He gradually rose and held the post of congress state president twice. He contested the assembly elections in 1984 and 1989 and the lok sabha elections in 1996 and was defeated. In the 2004 parliamentary elections, he contested from the then Gopichettipalayam lok sabha constituency on behalf of the congress party and won by a margin of (214477) votes and was elected as a member of the lok sabha for the first time. Later, he took office as the Union minister of State for Textiles in the government led by prime minister Manmohan Singh. However, he contested from the Erode lok sabha constituency in the 2009 parliamentary elections and from the Tiruppur lok sabha constituency in the 2014 parliamentary elections and suffered defeat. His defeat was attributed to his lack of amicable relationship with the DMK in the alliance. Subsequently, he contested from the Theni lok sabha constituency in the 2019 parliamentary elections and also suffered defeat.
After that, in 2023, his eldest son and tamil Nadu congress Party mla Thirumagan died of sudden chest pain. Subsequently, in the by-election for the vacant Erode east assembly seat, E. V. K. S. Elangovan contested on behalf of the DMK-Congress alliance and won a landslide victory.
