In Bihar, the practice of kidnapping eligible bachelors and forcing them into marriage—typically by threatening them with guns—is known as "Pakadwa Vivah," or forced marriage. In another such case, on Friday, december 13, in Katihar, Begusarai, a government BPSC instructor was kidnapped, beaten, and forced into marriage to a female. On social media, a video of the event is currently going viral.
According to NDTV, Avnish Kumar was kidnapped by twelve guys at gunpoint when he was traveling to the school where he works in an e-rickshaw after two Scorpios blocked his route. He was purportedly wedded to a lady he had been dating for four years but had not yet married, according to the claims.
According to Gunjan, a lady from the Lakhisarai area, she and Kumar were in a committed relationship. They met at Avnish's house in Katihar and often traveled to hotels together.
Avnish had pledged to marry her and establish a family, but Gunjan rejected her proposal after she notified her family, he told NDTV.
Three days before the forced marriage, Gunjan's family is said to have captured the pair.
Avnish refuses to be in a partnership.
After the forced ceremony, however, things changed when Gunjan and her family visited Avnish's home in Rajaura. When they arrived, they learned that Avnish had fled and that Gunjan had been rejected by his family.
Avnish, however, denied all of this and stated to NDTV that they were not romantically involved. He added that Gunjan was persistently attempting to speak with him and was stalking him.
Both Avnish and Gunjan have lodged a complaint at the police station.
