In connection with an abetment to suicide case, Nikita Singhania, the estranged wife of 34-year-old software worker Atul Subhash, her brother Anurag, and mother nisha have all been taken into custody. Days after Atul committed himself, he accused Nikita and her family of extortion and harassment.
The Singhanias are scheduled to be remanded in jail after being brought in court. police in Bengaluru had already ordered them to show up in three days.
Atul Subhash's death and the accusations he made against Nikita Singhania and her family in an "80-minute video" and "24-page suicide note" have caused widespread public indignation.
The 34-year-old software worker, who was born in Samastipur, Bihar, was discovered dead at his Bengaluru apartment on Monday. Every page of the comprehensive memo that the police discovered started with the words "justice is due."
Atul clarified in his video and statement that he met Nikita on a matching service and got married to her in 2019. The next year, the couple had a son. He said, however, that Nikita and her relatives started requesting substantial quantities of money in order to establish enterprises. When he refused, there were arguments, and she and their kid fled their house in 2021.
Nikita accused him and his family of cruelty, dowry harassment, and even murder in many lawsuits that were brought against them the next year, according to Atul. Although this action was ultimately dropped, the Singhanias claimed that Atul and his family had tormented Nikita's late father and caused his death over dowry.
Nikita and her family, according to Atul, utilized these incidents to harass him and demand a sizable sum of money in maintenance and alimony. Nikita had sought "₹3 crore" to resolve the matter, he said, and the court had mandated that he pay "₹80,000 per month" in maintenance for Nikita and their kid. He said, nevertheless, that she desired much more.
"The more I work hard and get better at my work, the more I and my family will be harassed and extorted, and the whole legal system will encourage and help my harassers...," Atul stated in his message, criticizing the court system for favoring women in such cases. Now that I'm gone, there won't be any money and no excuse to bother my brother and my elderly parents. Even though I may have wrecked my body, everything I hold dear has been spared.
Nikita and her mother nisha also accused him of "instigating him to die" twice.
After Atul passed away, his brother Bikas Kumar accused Nikita, her mother Nisha, brother Anurag, and uncle Sushil Singhania of aiding and abetting his suicide. According to Atul's relatives, he was traveling between Bengaluru and Jaunpur up to "40 times" and was under a great deal of stress as a result of the ongoing court struggle. Additionally, they claimed that Nikita wanted payment in exchange for the chance to visit their kid and denied Atul the opportunity to meet him.
In response, Nikita's uncle, Sushil Singhania, told the media that Atul's allegations are "baseless" and maintained that they are "innocent".
