Till What Number Can Waiting List Tickets Be Confirmed? Indian Railways Reveal Magic Formula
Office workers find this especially difficult because they also have to plan their vacation days.
It's hard to predict how many tickets on the waiting list will be confirmed. Although some websites provide estimates of chance, these are not necessarily reliable. In order to resolve this matter, indian Railways has disclosed the confirmation process and formula for waiting list tickets.
High Demand During Festive Seasons
During festival seasons, there is a spike in demand for rail tickets, and waiting lines can occasionally surpass 500 people. However, there is very little likelihood of confirmation during such busy periods. There are two methods for confirming tickets on waiting lists: regular cancellations and the railway's emergency quota.
Average Ticket Cancellation
After making reservations, 21% of travelers often cancel their train tickets. This indicates that the likelihood of a waiting list ticket getting confirmed is around 21%. For example, there will probably be 14 seats left in a sleeper bus with 72 seats. Furthermore, between 4 and 5 percent of ticket buyers never take a trip. When this is taken into consideration, the probability of confirmation rises to about 25%, indicating that up to 18 seats for each sleeper coach can be guaranteed.
Total Seats Confirmed Per Train
For example, if a train has 10 sleeper coaches, each with 18 seats becoming available, this means 180 waiting list seats across the train can potentially be confirmed. The same formula applies to third AC, second AC, and first AC coaches.
Additional Confirmations Through Emergency Quota
10% of seats are set aside by the Railway Ministry as an emergency quota. The railroads maintain the right to assign these reserved seats to passengers who are ill or in need. The likelihood that waiting list tickets will be confirmed is further increased if only 5% of the reserved seats are utilized; the remaining 5% are returned to the pool.
