A lorry carrying medical waste from
kerala has been seized..!?
A lorry carrying medical waste from
kerala to
tirunelveli has been seized based on CCTV footage. The lorry owner and
driver from
salem are being questioned by the police. Lorries from
kerala are bringing meat waste and medical waste in bags and dumping them in
tirunelveli and
tenkasi districts. The bags coming from Nagercoil were dumped in the Radhapuram, Panagudi, and Nanguneri blocks of
tirunelveli district. The medical waste was dumped in trucks coming from
tenkasi in Kadayam and Alankulam blocks.
Allegations were raised that medical waste brought from
kerala was being dumped in bags on government-owned lands in Nadukallur and Pazhavur areas near Seethapalpanallur in Tirunelveli. This sparked strong opposition. The
tirunelveli District
collector had warned that strict action would be taken against those involved. On
december 19, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered that the medical waste dumped in
tirunelveli should be taken back to Kerala. The
kerala government should take responsibility and remove it within 3 days. This was expected to put an end to the incident of medical waste being brought from
kerala in trucks and dumped there. In this situation, today (December 21) the lorry that brought medical waste from
kerala to
tirunelveli was seized based on CCTV and
tv footage. The
police are interrogating the lorry owner and
driver from Salem.
