India is relaxing the restrictions on having children..!?
Our country has reached the first place among the most populous countries in the world. After being in second place for a few decades, we overtook china last year and occupied first place with a population of 1.45 billion. However, with the population increasing to this level, there are demands to lift the restrictions on population control in the country. Governments in states like ap, telangana, and tamil Nadu are encouraging people to have children. Once, governments used to say that two children should be enough. After that, one is enough. After that, people followed the government's call and followed the population control measures well. Now, every household has only one or two children. However, the government is changing its policies.
It is relaxing the restrictions on having children. The question of why we still have to have children after reaching the world's number one position in population is intriguing. Compared to the North, population control has been implemented 100 percent in the South. Due to this, the population in the south is decreasing, which has led to a possibility of a decrease in the number of seats in the Lok Sabha. Moreover, the low fertility rate is increasing the number of senior citizens in the population. As this is likely to slow down the economy in the future, the southern states are thinking of lifting restrictions on population control. However, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken the first step in this direction in AP. The rule that those with more than two children are ineligible to contest in local bodies has been removed. This has revealed that the ap government is interested in increasing the population. Similarly, the chief minister of tamil Nadu, Stalin, who is next to him, also wants the population to increase. telangana is also looking to change the population control guidelines. The fertility rate in our country has been declining for several decades. In 1950, an average woman had 5 to 6 children, now she is having just one. This situation is being seen in 17 states, which is causing concern. This is likely to increase the number of elderly people in the future. This is likely to pose a major challenge to the indian economy. While it took 120 years for the number of elderly people in france to increase from 7 percent to 14 percent of the population, it took 89 years for the number of elderly people to double to the same level in Sweden. It will take only 28 years for the number of elderly people in india to increase. Although this change was possible with the family welfare schemes that encouraged Chinese families across the country, this development is leading to unexpected results. The per capita income is being affected due to the decline in population.
The increasing number of elderly people is likely to put a huge burden on the economy of the states in the future. Currently, the old age pension scheme is being implemented in every state. States, that are already struggling with debts and limited resources, will have to provide huge funds for pensions in the future. In addition, there is a risk of a decrease in the labor force and a drop in per capita income. It is said that this development will have an impact on the country's economy. That is why the government is taking precautionary steps to increase the population in our country by examining the experiences being data-faced around the world.
