UP police say two accused in Lucknow IOB bank heist killed in encounters

LUCKNOW: Two criminals allegedly involved in the robbery at the indian Overseas Bank's Chinhat branch in lucknow were killed in separate encounters with the lucknow and Ghazipur police on Tuesday, officials said, one day after three members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force, who were allegedly involved in the grenade attack on a police establishment in Gurdaspur, were killed in an encounter during a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and punjab police.Sunny Dayal, 28, was shot dead by the Ghazipur police and SWAT surveillance squad in a different encounter, they said, while Sobind Kumar, 26, was killed in a confrontation with the lucknow police close to Kisan Path.

bihar native Sobind Kumar was listed as one of the suspects wanted in the bank heist by Assistant Commissioner of police (ACP) Chinhat, Radha Raman Singh.

Following a tip, police stopped two cars on monday in the Chinhat region, close to Laualai village. The police team retaliated after one of the suspects opened fire on them.

According to him, Sobind Kumar was shot and subsequently passed away.According to Uttar Pradesh director General of police (DGP) prashant Kumar, Dayal, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was killed during a joint operation by Ghazipur's Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team and the Gahmar police.

police said they attempted to stop two men on a motorcycle near the Bara police outpost during a routine check. However, the suspects sought to run towards the bihar data-border.

A chase began, and the suspects were intercepted at Kutubpur, where they abandoned their vehicle and opened fire at the police."Sunday Dayal was shot by police in reprisal, and the second suspect fled in the dark. After being brought to a community health clinic, Sunny was subsequently sent to Ghazipur district Hospital, where the DGP proclaimed him deceased.

He stated that police had taken silver trinkets, Rs 35,500 in cash, and a.32-bore pistol from his hands.

On Sunday, the indian Overseas bank branch in Chinhat was robbed.

According to sandeep Singh, the branch manager, burglars broke through the wall from a nearby empty plot to enter the bank and stole goods from about 40 lockers.The bank described the event as a "regrettable security breach despite stringent measures" in a statement and promised to fully cooperate with authorities.

Three suspects in the crime were taken into custody by police earlier on Monday. They were identified as bihar residents Kailash, Balram, and Arvind Kumar (injured). They were stopped close to the settlement of Laualai.

At first, four accomplices—Sobind Kumar, Sunny Dayal, mithun Kumar, and Vipin Kumar Verma—had escaped.
