Karnataka - Kho Kho Players Reject CM Cash Award - Says "No Respect"

SIBY JEYYA
Two karnataka players who were on the men's and women's teams that won the first Kho Kho world cup have refused the Rs 5 lakh cash prize, saying they are unhappy with the acknowledgment they got. M K gautham and Chaitra B thought that the distinction was insufficient, despite chief minister Siddaramaiah congratulating them and praising their accomplishments.

They said that neither they nor anybody else would be motivated to pursue Kho Kho by the monetary award. The players claim that the maharashtra government has offered the members of their winning squad government employment and a financial incentive of Rs 2.25 crore.

"We are not insulting the chief minister by rejecting the award, but we did not get the respect we deserve," gautham stated as he announced his decision to decline the honor. We are rejecting it as a result. His demand, he told reporters here, was that the state government do a full evaluation of the situation, observe how it has been handled in the neighboring state of maharashtra, and then make a decision.

Gautham said that if there is a state where two persons have played the game after maharashtra, it is Karnataka.

"Today, all government money is allocated for cricket, and parents forbid their kids from participating in rural activities. people (the government) announce the reward and award on X even before the final ball is played," the sportsman said.

Gautham's companion Chaitra also voiced her dissatisfaction with the government's reaction.

"We're asking for the same sum as the other world cup participants receive. We have medals, just like other athletes, but we don't have access to the facilities that athletes have for different events," she remarked.

Only five lakh rupees have been announced. "Under these conditions, we will not continue with this sport," Chaitra declared.

Upon being informed of the problem, the chief minister said, "Let's see." The problem has allowed the opposition to criticize the administration and the controlling Congress.

The karnataka Assembly's leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, responded to the news by urging the athletes to take the cash.

"This administration is impoverished. Whatever comes your way, accept it. Speaking to the media in Mysuru, he joked, "Once you reject it, you won't get it."
