In that regard, 300 people from various countries including india, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and china have been brought to panama and accommodated in a hotel there. They are being provided with food and shelter under an agreement between the two countries. But more than 40% of them are refusing to return to their homeland, saying 'we cannot be safe in our own country'. This has created a problem in deporting them. Panamanian immigration officials are trying to deport them through an alternative route. In this case, videos have been released showing people staying in panama hotels holding posters saying 'We are not safe. We are not safe in our country. Save us' through the windows of Panamanian hotels.
In this regard, Panamanian Defense minister Frank Abrego said, 'These immigrants are being held in a hotel where they receive medical care and food as part of the migration agreement between panama and the United States. However, they are not allowed to leave the hotel until international authorities arrange for their return to their home countries. We are trying to deport them through an alternative route because more than 40% of these immigrants do not want to return to their home countries voluntarily. "Out of the 300 deportees, 171 have agreed to return to their respective countries with the help of the international Organization for Migration and the UN Refugee Agency," he said.
