Next month, vikramaditya Motwane's historical drama Lootera will be released in theaters, continuing the practice of re-releases! When it came out in 2013, the movie, which starred ranveer singh and Sonakshi Sinha, was a complete failure. But the movie has developed a cult following over time. The movie is slated to be released in theaters on march 7, 2025, over 12 years after it was first released.
PVR Cinemas shared a poster of the movie along with the release date on social media on february 19 to promote the re-release. "Everyone, this is the moment! Commencing march 7, relive the enchantment of Lootera on the big screen. Re-releasing on march 7 at PVR INOX!," the caption said. O. Henry's 1907 short story The Last Leaf served as some of the inspiration for Lootera.
Following the highly acclaimed 2010 release of Udaan, this was the director's second movie. The movie has established a specialized following during the past ten years. Will it, however, be able to attract as large an audience as the earlier re-releases?
As an illustration, consider the recent re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam, which was a huge box-office success and had widespread acclaim. However, the Zamindari Abolition Act serves as the setting for the historical drama Lootera, which is set in the 1950s. Not everyone likes this genre. Sacred Games, Jubilee, CTRL, Black Warrant, and other successful films have strengthened the director's reputation in the business.
It's very likely that his name will draw in new viewers who haven't yet seen the director's underappreciated works. Only until Lootera returns to theaters can its actual impact be determined.
