Bad news for Indians as US VP Vance says Green Card Holders Don't have any Rights - Only Americans Decide
"A green card does not grant immigrants the right to stay in the U.S. indefinitely," JD Vance stated in an interview on Thursday, march 13. 'Permanent Resident Card' is the official name for the green card.' It allows foreigners to reside and work in the United States. Nevertheless, 'permanent residency' does not imply an indefinite stay, despite the designation.
"A green card holder does not have an indefinite right to stay in America," Vance stated during an interview on The Ingraham Angle with Laura Ingraham of Fox News. It's not really about free speech, and while I agree that it's about national security, what matters most is that we, as Americans, decide who has the right to live in our country."
He went on to say, "And if the Secretary of State and the President decide that this person should not be in America and they have no legal right to be here, then that's just it."
A discussion has been triggered by the arrest of a student from Columbia University. Vance made this comment following the arrest of Columbia university graduate student Mahmoud Khalil. Green card holder Khalil was arrested on saturday for his involvement in anti-Israel-Hamas demonstrations at Columbia university last spring. Khalil's attorney claims that the trump administration withdrew his green card, but federal judge Jesse Furman in New York has put a stop to any immediate attempts to deport him pending a hearing.
In certain situations, such as criminal conduct, prolonged departure from the nation, or noncompliance with immigration regulations, U.S. law permits the revocation of green cards.
According to a business Standard article, Russell A. Stamets, partner at Circle of Counsels, stated that "in general, green card holders enjoy the same first amendment rights as US citizens." Generally speaking, a green card cannot be revoked for speech that is protected by the constitution, including nonviolent demonstrations. Serious crimes or other blatant infractions result in the revocation of green cards.
