1.18 lakh people affected by dog bites in 75 days..!?
In tamil Nadu, more than 1.18 lakh people have been affected by dog bites in the last two and a half months, and four people have died of 'rabies'. In tamil Nadu, the number of incidents of injuries caused by stray dogs and domestic dogs is continuously increasing. Due to this, vaccination is the solution to protect pets and humans from the rabies infection that occurs. A puppy should be vaccinated twice against rabies in the first year of its birth. Thereafter, it should be vaccinated once a year. However, street dogs and pets in some places are not vaccinated properly. When unvaccinated dogs bite humans, the rabies infection spreads, affecting both parties.

Rabies vaccination is necessary after being bitten by animals including dogs, cats, goats, cows, horses, monkeys, foxes, badgers, wolves, and bats. More than one lakh vaccines are in stock in government hospitals and primary health centers. If bitten by animals like dogs, they are given four doses of vaccination on the first, third, seventh, and 28th day. If the wound is deep, an additional dose of 'immunoglobulin' vaccine is given. Due to a lack of awareness about this, some people die from rabies without receiving proper treatment. Therefore, if bitten by animals, they should get vaccinated properly as per the doctor's advice.
