Military Incursion By India Is Imminent Says Pakistan Defence Minister
26 people were killed in the terrorist incident, which infuriated indians and led to demands for action against Pakistan. India and pakistan both claim and have fought two wars over kashmir, and india accuses pakistan of supporting terrorism there.
Because of the imminence of the situation, we have increased our forces. Therefore, some strategic decisions have to be made in that situation," Defense minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told Reuters during an interview at his Islamabad office.
Asif claimed that Pakistan's military had informed the government about the potential for an indian assault and that India's rhetoric was intensifying. He did not elaborate on why he believed an invasion was likely to occur.
India identified two accused terrorists as Pakistani following the attack in Kashmir. Islamabad has demanded an impartial inquiry and denied any involvement.
Asif declared that pakistan was on high alert and that "there is a direct threat to our existence" was the sole circumstance in which it would deploy its nuclear arsenal.
