US Office Horror: Laid Off Day 1 for H-1B Visa

G GOWTHAM
Imagine relocating across the nation for a new job and learning on your first day that you have been fired.  One hopeful employee who moved from Los Angeles to New hampshire and was fired due to his H-1B visa problems experienced just that.  The foreign worker posted on social media that he was comfortable using his work laptop and employee ID.  Only a few hours later, HR drew him aside and informed him that they would not be able to keep him on staff due to his immigration status.

The fact that this individual had brought attention to the problem weeks prior and requested the vital I-983 form just makes it worse.  HR said they would take care of it, but the person in charge resigned, and nobody else was interested in following up.  This is the most recent instance of a system failing those who are already in danger.  Since January, this individual has been enduring arduous job searches, interviews, two nationwide moves, depletion of money, and five heartbreaks at the final hurdle.

Even to think of the mental and emotional agony is heartbreaking.  There is little certainty regarding their future in a foreign nation, and many H-1B applicants are facing the same nightmare as the US due to political unrest.  More and more gifted people are being snubbed for no fault of their own, and the situation only gets worse every day.
