Manipur: 'BJP-led alliance has no will to solve Manipur crisis', congress targets

Manipur: Congress questioned the political will of the BJP-led alliance to resolve the Manipur crisis, saying that despite 54 MLAs in the assembly, it is unable to form the state government.Congress alleged that despite the President's rule, the situation in Manipur is not normal, people are still in an atmosphere of fear, and the government is not listening to the problems of the people.

Congress on Saturday said that the BJP-led alliance has no political will to solve the Manipur crisis.The opposition party alleged that even though the BJP-led alliance has 54 MLAs in the 60-member assembly, it is still unable to form the government in the state.

Manipur congress chief Kesham Meghchandra, while talking to reporters during the 'Quit india Movement' anniversary program, said that even though the firing has stopped after the imposition of President's rule, people are still not able to move freely. Earlier this week, parliament approved the extension of President's rule in Manipur for another six months after august 13.

Meghchandra said, "We have given suggestions and memorandums to the bjp leadership several times on the law and order situation in the state, but the bjp government at the Centre does not take our views seriously. President's rule was imposed on february 13, after which, even though the firing had stopped, the movement of people was still disrupted." He said, "Social welfare schemes in the state have completely stalled, and the financial situation is very bad. We are not in favour of extending the President's rule for another six months. Now there is no one to listen to the grievances of the people." The congress leader alleged that the central government does not have the political will to resolve the Manipur crisis. He said, "The bjp and its allies have 54 MLAs in the 60-member House, yet they are not able to form the government." Meghchandra claimed that development has completely stopped in the state, and even the health services provided by the Centre are not reaching the people. He said, due to the failure of the administration, the troubles of the people have increased manifold.

Meghachandra also criticized the budget presented by the bjp government at the Center for Manipur. He saidthat the budget passed recently in parliament is very small and the amount allocated for relief camps is inadequate. We are extremely disappointed with this budget.

On Thursday, the lok sabha passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025, allowing the state to spend Rs 30,969 crore in the current financial year. Ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur in May 2023, in which more than 260 people have lost their lives so far. At the same time, about 1,500 people have been injured, and more than 70,000 people have been rendered homeless.
