The trinamool congress (TMC) supported a special discussion on Vande Mataram.
150th Anniversary Commemoration
A program was organized in delhi on November 7, 2025, to mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
The central government issued a special commemorative coin and postage stamp to honor the composition.
PM Modi’s Statement on Congress
PM Modi claimed that the congress Party had distorted Vande Mataram.
He alleged that in 1937, under Nehru’s leadership, the original verses were removed, which he said caused division.
He questioned why this injustice was done to the national song.
Congress Response
Congress General Secretary jairam ramesh criticized PM Modi’s remarks as an insult to the 1937 congress Working Committee (CWC) and Rabindranath Tagore.
Ramesh highlighted that the CWC met in kolkata from 26 October to 1 November 1937, with leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Bose, Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Azad, Sarojini Naidu, J.B. Kripalani, Bhulabhai Desai, Jamnalal Bajaj, and narendra Dev.
On October 28, 1937, the CWC stated Vande Mataram, guided by Rabindranath Tagore’s advice.
Origin of Vande Mataram
Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
First published in Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875.
Later included in his novel Anandamath, set during the Sanyasi Rebellion against the british East india Company in the bengal Presidency (then including bihar and Orissa).
