Chennai, Dec24, 2025 — Tamil Nadu’s school Education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has stated that Chief minister M.K. stalin will announce a positive decision for government employees by January 6, 2026, amid ongoing labour tensions and pending demands from employee unions.

Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi, Mahesh highlighted that the state leadership is working on proposals that could address the key concerns of government workers and teachers. He said that the chief minister intends to deliver good news before January 6, a date when teacher and government employee unions have threatened to begin an indefinite strike if their demands — including the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme and other benefits — are not satisfactorily resolved.

This comment comes after several rounds of talks between a ministerial committee and employee associations failed to yield an agreement, heightening uncertainty ahead of the planned action by unions.

Mahesh’s remarks underline the government’s attempt to strike a balance between addressing long‑standing staff grievances and maintaining administrative functioning in the crucial weeks leading up to early January. While specifics of the promised announcement have not been disclosed, workers and union leaders will be closely watching for any indication of concessions or policy shifts that could avert the strike.

The backdrop to this statement is the growing demand from employees for better retirement benefits and workplace guarantees, issues that have dominated negotiations and fuelled labour mobilisation across the state. government officials have been under pressure to respond proactively as tensions rise ahead of the proposed work stoppage.
