Chief minister M.K. Stalin has cautioned against the growing trend of political interference even in the fields of art and literature, expressing concern that such involvement undermines creative freedom and the independence of cultural institutions.

Speaking at a public function, the chief minister said that art and literature have historically served as voices of society, reflecting truth, dissent, and social change. He warned that when politics intrudes into cultural platforms—especially in the selection and recognition of artists and writers—it risks diluting the integrity and credibility of prestigious art and literary awards.

M.K. stalin emphadata-sized that awards in the fields of literature, fine arts, cinema, and culture should be based solely on merit, creativity, and contribution to society, rather than political affiliations or ideological preferences. He noted that creators must be allowed the freedom to express their thoughts without fear of censorship, pressure, or discrimination.

The chief minister further stated that cultural spaces should remain inclusive and independent, allowing diverse voices to flourish. He stressed that governments have a responsibility to support art and literature by providing platforms and resources, but not by influencing decisions or controlling narratives.

Highlighting the DMK government’s approach, stalin said his administration is committed to safeguarding artistic freedom and ensuring transparency in the process of selecting award recipients. He added that protecting creative expression is essential for a healthy democracy and a progressive society.

Concluding his address, the chief minister warned that political interference in arts and literary awards sets a dangerous precedent and called upon intellectuals, artists, and writers to remain vigilant in defending the autonomy and dignity of cultural institutions.
