How to Set Up the New Aadhaar App Without Losing Your Data

G GOWTHAM
1. Backup Your mAadhaar Data

Before uninstalling or migrating anything:

  • Open mAadhaar on your phone.
  • Go to Settings → Backup/Export Data (if available).
  • Save your offline Aadhaar file (.xml or QR code PDF) in a secure folder or cloud storage.
This ensures you have a copy if anything goes wrong.
2. Download the New Aadhaar App

  • Visit Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS).
  • Search for “Aadhaar App – uidai Official”.
  • Ensure it’s the official uidai app.
  • Install the app.
3. Open the App & Accept Permissions

  • Launch the app.
  • Grant necessary permissions, such as storage access, camera, and location, which are required for QR scanning and OTP verification.
4. Login Using Aadhaar

You can log in via:

Aadhaar Number + OTP

Virtual ID (VID) + OTP

  • Enter your details and request OTP on your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP in the app to verify your identity.
5. Restore Your Existing Profiles

  • After logging in, the app may detect existing Aadhaar profiles linked to your number or device.
  • Follow on-screen prompts to restore previous profiles.
  • Do not uninstall mAadhaar until the restore is confirmed, if possible.
6. Set a Secure PIN/Lock

  • Once your profile is restored, set a PIN or biometric lock in the app.
  • This keeps your Aadhaar data secure on your phone.
7. Verify Data

  • Check that your Aadhaar details, QR code, and mAadhaar features (like offline Aadhaar, profile info) are correctly visible.
  • If something is missing, use the “Recover Profile / Sync Data” option in the app.
8. Optional: Uninstall mAadhaar

  • Once you’ve confirmed all your data is safely migrated and restored, you can uninstall mAadhaar.
  • Keep your backup offline just in case.
💡 Tips for Safe Migration

  • Use a stable internet connection during migration.
  • Make sure your registered mobile number is active for OTP verification.
  • Avoid using third-party apps claiming to “transfer” Aadhaar data — only use the official uidai app.
