Summer Vacation Announced for Anganwadi Centres Across Tamil Nadu in May 2026

G GOWTHAM
Chennai: The tamil Nadu government has issued an official government Order (GO) announcing summer vacation for all Anganwadi centres across the state for the entire month of May 2026.

According to the order, Anganwadi centres will remain closed from May 1 to May 31, 2026, in view of the intense summer heat. The decision has been taken to safeguard the health and well-being of young children, pregnant women, and Anganwadi workers who attend these centres regularly.

The state government stated that rising temperatures during the peak summer period could pose health risks, especially to infants and toddlers. Keeping this in mind, the government has consistently followed the practice of granting summer holidays to Anganwadi centres every year.

Officials clarified that while the centres will remain closed during this period, essential welfare measures and nutritional schemes will continue through alternative arrangements wherever required. Necessary instructions have been issued to district-level authorities to ensure that beneficiaries do not data-face any disruption in services.

The government’s move has been welcomed by parents and Anganwadi staff, who believe that the decision will help protect children from heat-related illnesses. Anganwadi centres are expected to resume normal functioning from June 1, 2026, following the completion of the summer vacation.
