M.K. Stalin on tuesday honoured
500 senior citizen couples by presenting them with
new clothes and auspicious ceremonial items, as part of a special initiative organized by the
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department on behalf of temples under its administration in the chennai region.The program was conducted for couples aged
70 years and above, recognizing their lifelong commitment, family values, and contribution to society. Speaking at the event, the chief minister said that senior citizens are the pillars of families and society, and honoring them is a way of expressing gratitude for their sacrifices and wisdom.Mr. stalin noted that temples have traditionally played an important role not only in spiritual life but also in social welfare. “Through initiatives like this, temples continue to serve society by promoting compassion, dignity, and respect for the elderly,” he said.As part of the ceremony, the chief minister personally distributed
new clothes, mangala items, and essentials to the couples, extending his warm wishes for their health, happiness, and long life. The beneficiaries expressed happiness and gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, describing it as a memorable and respectful recognition.Officials from the HR&CE Department stated that the program aims to strengthen family values, promote social harmony, and ensure that elderly citizens feel valued and cared for. Similar welfare initiatives are planned to be conducted regularly through temples across the state.The event was attended by HR&CE Department officials, temple administrators, government representatives, and members of the public. The initiative reflects the tamil Nadu government’s continued focus on inclusive welfare programs that combine cultural traditions with social responsibility.
