Kantara Mimicry Row: Karnataka HC Grants Interim Relief to Ranveer Singh ..?
The court directed the karnataka government not to take any coercive steps against the actor.
Relief is subject to the condition that Singh cooperates fully with the ongoing investigation.
The matter has been posted for the next hearing on march 2.
Background of the FIR
An FIR was registered at High Grounds police station in Bengaluru in january 2026.
The complaint relates to an alleged mimicry act performed during the closing ceremony of the international Film festival of india (IFFI) 2025 in Goa.
Singh allegedly mimicked the Daiva character from Kantara, originally portrayed by Rishab Shetty.
He was also accused of referring to daivas as “ghosts,” which sparked outrage.
Allegations in the Complaint
The complaint was filed by Bengaluru-based lawyer Prashanth Methal.
It is alleged that Singh crudely imitated expressions linked to Panjurli and Guliga Daiva spirits.
The complainant objected to the alleged reference to Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost.”
For devotees in coastal karnataka, Chavundi Daiva is considered a sacred protector symbolising divine feminine power.
The FIR invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Details of the Incident
The performance reportedly took place on november 28, 2025, in Goa.
The complainant said he saw a video of the act on instagram on december 2, 2025.
He claimed the act hurt religious sentiments and disrespected traditional Daiva practices.
Ranveer Singh’s Response
Singh issued a public apology via instagram Stories.
He clarified that he intended to appreciate Rishab Shetty’s performance.
The actor expressed deep respect for all cultures and traditions.
He stated that he sincerely apologised if anyone’s sentiments were hurt.
