Union home and Cooperation minister Amit Shah soft-launched four wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital tools for Census 2027 in New Delhi.

Two mascots, “Pragati” (female) and “Vikas” (male), were unveiled to symbolize friendly and inclusive enumerators.

The mascots represent equal participation of women and men in India’s journey toward a developed nation by 2047.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) developed tools to facilitate wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital census operations nationwide.

Over 3 million enumerators, supervisors, and officials will participate in Census 2027.

For the first time, the census will be fully wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital and will also offer an option for self-enumeration.

House Listing Block Creator Web Application

Allows creation of house listing blocks using satellite imagery for standardized geographical coverage.

HLO mobile Application

Secure offline mobile app for enumerators to collect and upload data directly to servers.

Available on Android and iOS, supports 16 languages, and registration is via the CMMS portal.

Self-Enumeration Portal

Enables eligible respondents to enter information online before door-to-door surveys.

A unique self-enumeration ID is generated for verification by enumerators.

Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) Portal

Centralized platform to plan, manage, and monitor census operations in real time.

Allows state, district, and tehsil officials to track progress via an integrated dashboard.

Census 2027 Phases and Timeline

Phase 1 (House Listing & Housing Census): april 1 – september 30, 2026; includes optional 15-day self-enumeration.

Phase 2 (Population Census): february 2027 nationwide; snow-covered and remote areas completed by september 2026.

Collects demographic, social, and economic data, including caste information.

Reference date: march 1, 2027 (October 1, 2026 for Ladakh and snow-covered regions).

Innovation, Accuracy, and Inclusion

Data collection will be done door-to-door using secure mobile applications to ensure full coverage.

Digital tools and satellite imagery will enhance accuracy, security, and comprehensive census coverage across India.
