Pooja Hegde’s Big Tamil Film Stuck in Limbo

A Film Caught Between Hype and Hurdles

Few films manage to generate buzz long before they reach theatres. But Jana Nayagan, starring Pooja Hegde, has done exactly that—though not always for the reasons the makers hoped. What was once expected to be a grand pongal release has now turned into a long and complicated journey through censor boards, complaints, and legal twists. And just when it seemed the film might finally move forward, another unexpected delay has pushed things back yet again.

1. The Re-Censorship Twist

The latest chapter in the film’s saga began when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly planned a fresh screening of the film through its revising committee. The re-evaluation was scheduled for monday afternoon, raising hopes that the certification process might finally be nearing completion.

However, reports soon emerged that the screening had been postponed indefinitely after a committee member fell ill. That sudden delay has once again left the film’s fate hanging in uncertainty.

2. How the Controversy Began

Originally slated for a January 9 release, the film ran into trouble when the censor board suggested multiple changes after its initial review in december 2025. The production team reportedly complied with the recommended cuts.

But the situation escalated when a member of the original evaluation panel filed a complaint, claiming that parts of the film could hurt certain religious sentiments. There were also objections about the alleged use of armed forces insignia without prior consultation.

Following the complaint, the CBFC chairman ordered the film to be sent to a revising committee.

3. The Legal Chapter That Ended Quietly

At one point, the production house even approached the Madras High Court, challenging the CBFC’s decision. Yet in a surprising move, the makers recently withdrew their petition, choosing instead to allow the censor process to continue.

4. A Release Window Still Uncertain

With the film now awaiting re-certification, industry chatter suggests its release could happen after the 2026 tamil Nadu assembly elections. Some reports even speculate a possible June release window, depending on how the censor review unfolds.

For now, Jana Nayagan remains one of the most talked-about unreleased films—caught in a web of controversy, bureaucracy, and anticipation, while audiences continue waiting to see when Pooja Hegde’s much-delayed project will finally hit the big screen. 🎬
