For more than a decade, christopher nolan has enjoyed something very few directors ever achieve — near untouchable internet respect.

Whether it was Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, or Oppenheimer, Nolan built a reputation where almost every new project arrived with automatic hype, critical anticipation, and fan loyalty already locked in.

But now, something unusual is happening.

The official trailer for The Odyssey has reportedly become the most disliked trailer of Nolan’s career on YouTube — a surprising turn even for people who expected controversy surrounding the project.

And what’s making the situation more shocking is the comparison people keep bringing up online.

Despite all the memes and criticism aimed at Kraven the Hunter during its marketing cycle, its trailer reportedly maintained an impressive 89% like ratio with around 32 million views. Meanwhile, “The Odyssey,” despite Nolan’s prestige and massive audience goodwill, reportedly sits lower at around 83% likes with roughly 28 million views.

That gap may sound small on paper.

But on the internet, perception matters more than percentages.

Because this isn’t just about dislikes. It’s about expectation shock.

people expect divisive reactions for generic superhero films. They do not expect it from christopher Nolan. That’s why the backlash feels louder than usual. When a director develops a reputation for cinematic “event films,” audiences become far harsher the moment something feels underwhelming, confusing, overly self-important, or disconnected from expectations.

Social media has amplified the situation even further. Clips, screenshots, reaction memes, and fan arguments have transformed the trailer discourse into a full-blown online battlefield.

And maybe that’s the real story here.

Not that “The Odyssey” trailer was disliked.

But the internet has finally shown christopher nolan something he rarely experiences:

Doubt.
