In the 89th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat', prime minister Narendra Modi mentioned start-ups and unicorn companies. PM Modi said that now the number of unicorns in india has reached 100. The prime minister said that these unicorn companies are working in different sectors such as E-commerce, Fin-Tech, Ed-Tech and Bio-Tech.


PM Modi in his address to the nation 'Mann Ki Baat' said that today India's start-up ecosystem is not limited to big cities only. The number of unicorn companies is increasing rapidly in the country. Let us know what are unicorn companies and how are they different from other companies...


What are Unicorn Companies?

Those companies are called unicorns whose valuation is 1 billion dollars i.e. 100 crores rupees. Also, these companies belong to the private sector. This term is common in the venture capital industry. The term was first used in California.

When any startup company starts being counted as a unicorn company in a few years after starting, it means that it is developing and its growth is good. The number of unicorn companies around the world has now reached close to one thousand.

Now the number of unicorn companies in india has crossed 100. Companies like PayTm, OYO, BYJU's, Swiggy, Zomato, Unacademy have now joined the category of unicorns and are growing rapidly. This means that the valuation of these companies has crossed 100 crores.

Talking about the number of unicorn companies in the world, after America and China, india has now reached number three. Earlier britain was at number two, but india has now overtaken Britain. Unicorn companies of india are also slowly spreading their feet outside India.
